Meet Rachel and David

A few months ago, I was walking a couple of beautiful dogs along Avoca Beach when I met the beautiful Rachel and David and warmed to them immediately. Ever since then we have stayed in touch in one way or another and they have been very encouraging of Doggie Dates NSW. Over time I have seen through their business page how passionate they are about what they do and how much they love not only their own dogs but also other people’s dogs. I wanted to share what I have learned about them with others, I hope you enjoy getting to know them as much as I have!

We have popped their contact details at the bottom of the page. Please check them out if you are interested in finding out more about their services.

Hi, we’re Rachel and David Tyne and we own and operate Tyne’s Waggin’ Wheels Mobile Dog Wash. We have been operating on the southern end of the Central Coast for just over twelve months. We were both primary school teachers for the past 30 years and decided that it was time for a change. We were searching for something that we could do together, work outdoors and with our great love of animals, especially dogs. We found something that we enjoy each day and focus on our personal happiness. Life is too short to not do a job you love!  We have been so privileged to provide a service that we know makes pups feel better at the end of our time together and grateful owners who love making their pups happy and smell great. We have met so many beautiful pups and their owners and enjoy hearing their stories. We recently celebrated washing our 150th client and are excited with the way our business is growing.

The best part of the job is meeting the variety of different breeds and getting to know the different personalities of the dogs. We have dogs of all shapes and sizes from tiny Fox Terriers, Chihuahuas, Jack Russels to Bull Mastiffs, Bull Arabs, Wolfhounds, Huskies and everything in between.

One of the most satisfying days was when we worked with Central Coast Animal Care Facility -Gosford Pound in helping to wash some dogs before an adoption drive at PetStock. We turned up at 5am and managed to wash twelve dogs before they needed to be at the store. The best news was that we heard at least two were adopted that day. It was so worth the early start.

The hardest part is hearing that some of the pups we’ve washed have passed away. One of the first clients we had was for a beautiful old Golden Retriever who needed weekly washing to help keep him clean and comfortable. He was so grateful each time and as hard as it is we know we helped a little. There’s been a few more stories like that and we’ve shed a few tears with the owners and appreciate them letting us share part of their families.  We have framed photo collages of every dog we have pampered on our side table. Our daughters joke there are more photos of dogs than of them!

We have funny experiences too. Once we were just finishing washing two gorgeous Cavalier King Charles and we were making sure we were being ultra-professional as always. David was returning the dogs and having a chat and I was cleaning down the hydrobath. The end of the hose blew off and I couldn’t clamp it quickly enough and ended up completely drenched from head to toe before he heard my calls for help and shut off the hose. I was so embarrassed but all we could do was laugh. Very professional!  The lovely owners grabbed some more towels for me to dry off. We always carry extras now and double check the connections!

When we’re not washing dogs, we can generally be found watching sport – football (diehard Roosters fans), cricket, netball or tennis, depending on the season.  Besides that, there is also nothing better than finding a sunny corner and settling in with a good book.

We have two beautiful labradoodles named Rose and Monte. They are 6 years old and are seriously spoilt. They are an unusual colour. They were born chocolate and hence we gave them chocolate based names (Roses chocolates and chocolate Monte biscuits) but when their adult coat came through, they turned more of their mother’s colour so now a special mix. They are best of friends and are very protective of each other – sometimes too much when one would like to play with other dogs.

We also make sure each day we are walking with the dogs usually on Avoca Beach which has a great off leash area and friendly dogs and people. It is our favourite place on the Central Coast. We walk there every day and love the friendships we have made with people and their dogs. It is a supportive friendly place and we are so lucky to live in an area that is so clean and refreshing. We have to remind ourselves to stop and really take in the scenery and be grateful for what we have. We are usually lucky enough to spot seals, dolphins and the odd whale or too. Haven’t spotted a shark yet but we know they’re out there.

We met at college and have been married for nearly 27 years. We have two amazing daughters and a newly welcomed son-in-law. We have a love for musical theatre and have seen many shows over the years with Les Miserable being a favourite. We have seen it on stage at least 8 times in various amateur and professional casts including in London. The soundtrack has always been a family favourite and every Friday night (which is home-made pizza night) we would turn it up loud and with our two daughters it would be time to gather together and prepare dinner while all singing along. It was the one night we knew we would all be together and celebrate family.
